Biography

Dr. Raj Balkaran is a scholar of Sanskrit narrative literature (Indian mythological texts), especially pertaining to Indian Goddess traditions. 

In addition to his academic training, he is a traditional Indian wisdom lineage holder, an avid storyteller and seasoned online educator.  He teaches lifelong learners online at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and at The Indian Wisdom School which he founded. He serves as Chaplain of Indian Spirituality at McMaster University.

Beyond research, speaking and teaching, he runs a thriving one-on-one life guidance and runs transformative in-person retreats around the globe. He also hosts the New Books in Indian Religions podcast where he interviews authors on their cutting-edge research.
